Decentraland SDK Hackathon starts September 2!

Share of 2.5 million MANA + 200 LANDs up for grabs

Get your creative juices flowing for two weeks of intense online competition to produce interactive content that will form part of Decentraland – a virtual world powered by the Ethereum blockchain and owned by its users.

You’ll submit your most creative interactive scenes, whether it be a multiplayer game, interactive art installation or a virtual shop. The only boundaries are the limits of your imagination.

For your efforts you’ll have the chance to share in 2,500,000 MANA (Decentraland’s cryptocurrency token) and 200 LANDs (virtual plots that house user creations). That’s a total of over $275k USD in prizes.

You don’t need to be fully versed in the theory and mechanics of blockchain or own LAND to participate, just have a healthy dose of the creative spirit.

Your work will be assessed and prizes awarded by a judging panel comprising Decentraland staff, community members and gaming industry figures.

How it Works

You can either work on your own or in a team, it’s up to you. A team submission will be counted as a single entry. Once you’ve created your scene using the Decentraland SDK, simply share an interactive preview of it. If you create something great our team or other LANDowners will be able to upload your scene into the world. Plus, 200 LANDs will be given out as rewards to the top participants.

Our last Hackathon, which ran from June 3 to June 17 this year, attracted some incredible creations. Check out some of them below:

‘Mystery Castle’, submitted by 1st place winners @Rob Dixon and @Chestnutbruze

‘Archery Casino’, submitted by 2nd place winner @Stephen Zhou

‘Voyager Project’, submitted by @surz

Introducing Decentraland SDK 6.3

Our SDK is based on TypeScript (JavaScript + type checking) which adopts common patterns that you’ll recognise from other game development platforms. Version 6.3 of our SDK will support collision events, player movement, a polished HUD interface and more.

SDK + Builder

We recommend using the Builder, Decentraland’s visual editor, as a starting point for your art pipeline. Then import and position pre-made, pre-loaded custom 3D models. Export to dive into the code and make it fun!

Get involved!

To participate, go to the official Decentraland SDK Hackathon home page. You can sign up and find out all you need to know about the two-week event. Check it out here.

We look forward to being inspired by your creations!
